Trump Invites Relatives of Injured Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence

President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.

Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Response

Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support public safety in the capital.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that educators wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the leader of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to help others.”

Memorial arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Steps and Government Adjustments

Officials have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy prompted the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.

Condition of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on a news program.

Attorney general Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit the family.

Memory of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
