One of the co-founders behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has claimed that parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, announced that he plans to personally create the controversial product within a personal series showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Between Founders versus Parent Company

This latest development escalates the ongoing disagreement among the world-famous dessert company with Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant which acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain that Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked their company against "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced through an Instagram video how he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas for naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as a symbol of solidarity with Palestinians due to its coloration, which match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism plus Recent Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company which originally established several years back to support former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Changes plus Upcoming Plans

The founder revealed that he plans to create additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that the company was silenced from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's recently, following decades with the organization, citing worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated that “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise the social mission, the values which it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
