In excess of 36,000 civilians have fled Sudan's Kordofan region east of Darfur starting Saturday, as reported by the UN's immigration body.

The strategic central area between the country's Darfur regions and the Khartoum-Riverine region has during recent weeks become the newest conflict zone in the extended civil war between the Sudanese army and the militia group.

Substantial Evacuation Numbers

An estimated 36,825 people evacuated from five districts in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, as reported by the International Organization for Migration.

The individuals, mainly traveling by foot, traveled to Tawila, a town to the west of El Fasher that is currently sheltering in excess of 652,000 evacuated individuals.

Heightened Military Presence

Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday described a significant increase in both RSF and army concentration across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both forces are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a critical supply and command center that joins Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," commented an RSF member in a recently distributed video statement.

Local Inhabitants Describe Safety Fears

A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, described that the quantity of RSF vehicles had increased significantly since the group's seizure of El Fasher.

"We ceased visiting our farms, fearing fighting," the local explained.

Another resident, who asked to remain unnamed for security reasons, also confirmed that "there has been a substantial growth in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the previous fortnight.

International Alarms and Requests

A senior UN official expressed concerns last week about "large-scale atrocities" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The diplomat cautioned about patterns echoing those in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against certain racial groups.

The spiritual head on Sunday called for an quick cessation of hostilities and the opening of relief routes in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and hindrances to humanitarian aid "are causing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's diplomatic representative to Egypt on Sunday charged RSF of committing war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not engage with the paramilitary group.

The ambassador further urged the world nations to designate the group as a terrorist entity.
