Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to his interviewer: “I said I won't manage another team in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to management, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates too. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
