A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
